… live to let live to let live …
My endless nature poem is hand-printed with green printing ink on an endless band of white ash veneer (2.7 metres or 9 feet long), and is suspended by a clear monofilament nylon line to move freely in endless winds. This nature sculpture is designed to evoke thoughts on the meaning of all forms of life, including humans and endangered species, over all time.
Although my nature sculpture appears to have two surfaces and two edges, the half-twist creates a Möbius band with just one surface and one edge, which are endless. (Try this yourself with a strip of paper.)
The process of constructing this nature sculpture, from concept to completion, took several years. Coincidentally, I began hand-printing my endless nature poem … live to let live to let live… on this sculpture on September 11, 2001, the day more than 3,000 people were killed at the World Trade Center in New York City, U.S.A.
The following landscape design of … live to let live to let live … is proposed as a memorial to those killed at New York’s World Trade Center on September 11, 2003. Note that people would be able to walk under and around the memorial to read the names of each person killed on the site. The names would be printed alphabetically around the rim of the sculpture.
