Professor, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto – Jan Spelt



Jan K. Spelt joined the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in 1988. His research interests are in surface science, the mechanics of materials, and the mechanics of manufacturing processes. He received his B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Toronto and an M.E. degree from Caltech. From 1985 to 1988, he was a research engineer with Alcan International Ltd., working on the structural adhesive bonding of aluminum in automobiles and railcars. He is currently the principal investigator for the project “Changes in Local Microtopography as a Function of Paper Type, Rewetting Liquid, and Volume during Printing”, part of the Research Consortium on Surface Science for Superior Paper in the Digital Era.
